The Great Old Ones
Heavily influenced by the writings of HP Lovecraft, this post-black Metal outfit returns with their Sophmore output. I was initially blown away by the musicianship, and dense atmosphere with their debut and their follow-up does not disappoint. They delve deeper into the Lovecraft stick and create a perfect balance of rich atmosphere and aggression. Listen, reflect, enjoy.

A Possible Return?
Hi folks, as you know I've been away for quite some time dealing with school related commitments which brought a halt to any further progress on the blog. With that being said, I think I'll keep this blog going from time to time. School is enjoyable and all, but listening to music, and expressing my thoughts with those few of you that probably pay attention to this blog, is what I thoroughly enjoy. Music is the common thread between many of us. I can't think of many other things that almost all share the same joy and love for. Though with my absence, I believe it is only natural for music tastes to expand, and change. With that being said, I will not put my primary focus on metal. I will do metal from time-to-time but I will mostly focus on various genres, and elements that I feel capture many of the emotions that metal evoke. Whether that be drone, ambient, neo-folk we shall see what I'm in the mood for
Cheers

As you can all see, I've been inactive for awhile now. Motivation is an integral part of my writing, and without it, my writing is simply bland. I probably won't be writing anytime soon, seeing as University will be starting shortly and will by my primary focus.

Six Brew Bantha

Six Brew Bantha are a three piece grindcore band from Victoria BC. Clocking in at a whopping 18 minutes, this release is full of all the quintessential elements you would expect from any grind release. From the howls, and frenzied shrieks to disjointed in your face guitar, Six Brew Bantha's self titled release has it all. Who knew Canada had such quality grindcore to offer.

Al-Namrood
Saudi Arabia is perhaps one the last countries you would expect to be producing metal, let alone black metal. Where religious doctrine is essentially law, it is difficult to see how metal would fit into the equation. Al-Namrood manage to do this, despite the constant fear of religious persecution. The thing that stands out right from the get go is the use of traditional Middle Eastern instruments such as the Oud and Tabala. These elements of traditional middle eastern folk music work very well, while they are prominent, they are by no means overdone or cheesy as many folky elements tend to be.
