As you can all see, I've been inactive for awhile now. Motivation is an integral part of my writing, and without it, my writing is simply bland. I probably won't be writing anytime soon, seeing as University will be starting shortly and will by my primary focus.

Six Brew Bantha

Six Brew Bantha are a three piece grindcore band from Victoria BC.  Clocking in at a whopping 18 minutes, this release is full of all the quintessential elements you would expect from any grind release. From the howls, and frenzied shrieks to disjointed in your face guitar, Six Brew Bantha's self titled release has it all. Who knew Canada had such quality grindcore to offer.

Saudi Arabia is perhaps one the last countries you would expect to be producing metal, let alone black metal. Where religious doctrine is essentially law, it is difficult to see how metal would fit into the equation. Al-Namrood manage to do this, despite the constant fear of religious persecution. The thing that stands out right from the get go is the use of traditional Middle Eastern instruments such as the Oud and Tabala. These elements of traditional middle eastern folk music work very well, while they are prominent, they are by no means overdone or cheesy as many folky elements tend to be.

Hi everybody! I'm finally back after my brief hiatus. For this weeks entry I bring you Alkerdeel who hail from Belgium. Alkerdeel play a mixture of Doom/Sludge with Black metal overtones. This translates into moments of  rawness, abrasiveness and pure filth, while other moments are provide you with sensations of pure bliss, through the various hypnotic passages. This release is by no means your typical Sludge, Black Metal hybrid. With that being said, if you want an album that will simply kick your ass, Morinde is the album for you.

Sorry for the lengthy delay people but I have been quite busy as of late. It's gotten to that time of the year where everything is due, so I will be focusing on school at this point in time. When things have settled down, I will start writing again.

If there's one Death Metal band out there to never have gotten the credit they deserve, it would definitely have to be Gorerotted. The lyrics are crude and humorous, the music is stupidly fast yet it is executed perfectly, and there are a bunch of kick ass riffs, plus who doesn't love some great bass solos. It's hard to imagine that all of this can be put into a 28 minute release, but boy it certainly is a good 28 minutes.

Епархия зла

Епархия Зла - Безвременная Апатия

When it comes to metal, Russia are most known for their Nazi Black Metal bands. Епархия зла (Eparchy of Evil) do not play NSBM, they instead are part of Russia's prominent Death/Doom Metal scene. As you would expect from many Russian Doom bands, they're synth laden to emulate Russia's cold winters, and Епархия зла are certainly no exception. Whether it's the downtuned guitars, the deep growls or the majestic keyboards, this album wont disappoint.

Niden Div. 187

Niden Div. 187 are a split-up Swedish Black metal band which is truly a shame. They play black metal in the same vain as Zyklon-b, bombastic, aggressive and militarist esque. The atmosphere is very war-like; just imagine yourself in the trenches while being constantly bombarded with artillery. That's what it's like listening to Niden Div. 187.  How something so good can be so underrated is beyond me.

Encephalopathy are a brutal death metal band (surprise surprise) hailing from good ol' Deutschland. This is a major slam fest from start to finish, not to say that's a bad thing per say, they also stray away from monotonous breakdowns which is definitely a good thing. Overall they're a fairly promising band who have the potential to create some devastating brutal death metal.
